O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
And order all things far and nigh;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And cause us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!O come, Desire of nations, bind
All peoples in one heart and mind;
Bid envy, strife and quarrels cease,
Fill all the world with heaven’s peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!Words by John M. Neale and Henry S. Coffin; music adapted from Plainsong by Thomas Helmore. Public Domain

My soul glorifies the Lord.
And my spirit will rejoice
In my saviour, God on high
Who looks upon my life
His humble servant childI will be forever blessed
For his goodness over me.
Oh, the great things he has done;
My lord, the Mighty One,
Whose name is holy
O my soul, magnify the Lord
Magnify the Lord, O my soul
O my soul, magnify the Lord
Magnify the Lord, O my soulEvermore and evermore
On and on, and age to age
Mercy, never failing, flows
Washing over those
Who humbly fear his name
O my soul, magnify the Lord
Magnify the Lord, O my soul
O my soul, magnify the Lord
Magnify the Lord, O my soulHe’s shown his mighty arm,
scattered the proud conceited hearts.
He cast the mighty down, the humble he has lifted up.
He filled the hungry and the full, empty, he sent away.
Remembering his mercy, to his people come to save
This promise he has made to Abraham and all to come
To every generation, evermore and everyone
O my soul, magnify the Lord
Magnify the Lord, O my soul
O my soul, magnify the Lord

Advent 4 – December 24. Written by Myrna Frost
Voice 1: We come to light the Christ candle on this Christmas Eve.
Voice 2: You are our wonderful counselor whose wisdom through the ages has guided your people.
All: Thank you Lord for leading us through days of gladness and nights of sorrow and loss.
Voice 1: You are the Mighty God whose hand created the universe and whose power sustains it.
Voice 2: You made us and we are yours.
All: Thank you, Father, for loving your creation and making it flourish.
Voice 1: You are the Everlasting Father who has set your people apart and blessed them with your abundant love.
Voice 2: Our Father, you have gone before us and prepared paths of righteousness and abundance.
All: Thank you for lighting our way and keeping our feet from straying.
Voice 1: You are the Prince of Peace who calms our storms and quiets our worry and distress.
Voice 2: Father, we seek your way of peace for peoples and nations.
All: May our swords of oppression be replaced with hands reaching into dark places and raising up the hopeless and downtrodden.
Voice 1: As we light this Christ candle, fill us with joy and hope and love.
Voice 2: Help us to bring light into places of darkness and despair.
All: Let us reflect your radiance and shine the glow of your love into a world that so needs your presence and saving grace. Amen.

See, amid the winter’s snow,
Born for us on earth below,
See, the tender Lamb appears,
Promised from eternal years!
Hail, thou ever-blessed morn!
Hail, redemption’s happy dawn!
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem!Lo, within a manger lies
He who built the starry skies,
He who, throned in height sublime,
Sits amid the cherubim!
Hail, thou ever-blessed morn!
Hail, redemption’s happy dawn!
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem!Sacred infant, all divine,
What a tender love is Thine,
Thus to come from highest bliss
Down to such a world as this!
Hail, thou ever-blessed morn!
Hail, redemption’s happy dawn!
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem!Teach, O teach us, holy child,
By Thy face so meek and mild,
Teach us to resemble Thee
In Thy sweet humility.
Hail, thou ever-blessed morn!
Hail, redemption’s happy dawn!
Sing through all Jerusalem,
Christ is born in Bethlehem!Words and music by Edward Caswall and J. Gross, Public Domain.

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years are
met in thee tonight.For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wond’ring love.
O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth!
And praises sing to God the King, and peace to all on earth.How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is giv’n!
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still the dear Christ enters in.O holy Child of Bethlehem! Descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in; be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel.Words & Music by Phillips Brooks and Lewis H. Redner. Public Domain.

Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and Child.
Holy Infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Sleep in heavenly peace.Silent night, holy night,
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing alleluia;
Christ the Saviour is born!
Christ the Saviour is born!Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth.
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth.Words & Music by Joseph Mohr and Franz Grüber. Public Domain.

Beginning from the Christ candle, we will light each other’s candles during the singing of the last songs as a symbol of Christ’s light going out into the world.
