Welcoming Refugees
We believe in welcoming the stranger. Throughout the year we have different opportunities to help refugees settle into their new homes here in Canada.
In 2016 our community sponsored a Syrian refugee family and in 2021 we committed to sponsoring another Syrian family who have arrived safely. Right now we are raising funds to support them in their first year here in Toronto. If you would like to donate, please visit our donation page below.
UPDATE FROM OUR REFUGEE ACTION GROUP
Good News!!! The RASO family has arrived!!
The Raso family is settling into their apartment, the kids are in school, and they are all learning to use the TTC. They are so thankful for everything. Thank you to all who have contributed time and finances.
The Raso boys: David and Abd are playing soccer this summer; they will need soccer shoes (Men’s 8.5/41 and Men’s 9.5/43), shin guards and two Size 5 soccer balls. Please check your closets and consider donating!!
Some used bicycles for the family would also be great. Please check your garage.
This spring and summer please consider including the Raso family in activities. As they learn English and about living in Toronto it is important that they have informal times to gain confidence.
As SGC sponsored Refugees, all volunteers need to have a Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Check and review the SGC policy, therefore to volunteer please sign up using the Volunteer form link: tiny.cc/rasovolunteer

Serving Seniors
Are you interested in connecting and supporting seniors in our community? If so, Willowdale Manor and NeighbourLink North York are inviting us to participate in 2 events a month.
They are looking for volunteers to connect with and offer support to the seniors who will be coming out to these events. If you are interested in receiving more information or you are available to volunteer at the events, contact Emily by click the button below.
We believe in a humble God who came not to be served but to serve. We respond to God's love for us by showing God's care to others. Here at Spring Garden Church we have many opportunities for you to serve within the church and outside the church walls. Join us as we show God's care to those who need it most.
RJHO home for women
Restorative Justice Housing Ontario (RJHO) assists former prisoners by providing safe, affordable housing. This gives them the stable foundation they need to become positive members of their communities. It will also lead to lower rates of re-offence and safer neighbourhoods, which helps the city as a whole.
We are putting together a team of people who can support the residents of this RJHO home by providing support with resume writing, using community services and other important needs. If you are interested in being a part of this team then please get in touch with Emily by clicking the button below.
Community Garden.
We believe that God has entrusted us to care for the earth. Here at Spring Garden Church we have a community garden. Volunteers care for the garden throughout the year and during the summer and early autumn we donate fresh produce to local organizations. Past recipients have been The Drop-In at Cummer Ave. United, Eva's Satellite Shelter and the NeighbourLink North York Food Hub. If you are interested in helping with the garden please contact our garden team.
Reconciliation.
We take seriously the Truth and Reconciliation Committee's Calls to Action as we pursue reconciliation with our Indigenous brothers and sisters in Canada. Throughout the year we have educational opportunities for our community as well as relational opportunities with our Indigenous neighbours. For more information please contact Emily.
